One last time..

* Love just doesn't happen when you want it to be perfect, it happens when there's an imperfect crack in your head* It was past midnight when the cellphone beeped. For a moment she thought it was her alarm going off and woke up with a start. She checked her phone and realised  it Jay who had messaged her. "Strange! This late in the night on a  weekday? Must have been partying!" she thought. The text read,                "I m on your terrace. Come up fast."           Was she dreaming? Should she pinch herself and confirm like they show in the movies? Jay coming up on her terrace to meet her like some bollywood romantic film hero was sooo out of question! But then he never texted her late in the night ever. Was this some prank? Just as she was about to call him and ask him what the matter was, her screen flashed " Incoming call- Jay".          "Riya you will freeze me in this co...

Comfortably Numb

I sit around wanting to feel better.  What are those words? Empowered? Determined? Motivated? Yeah yeah, all those. But I feel run down. When I think of the person I was a year back, I don't even recognize her. I try to conjure those feelings and try to be that girl. Who am I kidding?  When you came into my life, you didn't just change it, you changed me. When you left, you didn't leave me broken, you left behind a part of you in me. And now, every day, every single moment, I'm reminded of you.  No amounts of getaways, cleansing processes or detox sessions will get rid of that.  Sometimes, in frustration, I wish I'd never spoken to you. I wish we'd never bonded over our losses or our differences. Then again, there are times when thinking of you makes me smile. I've tried to stay angry, I've tried to cry about you, I've tried to convince myself that I'm better off. I know I'll be okay, this isn't th...

Coming Close[Part 1]

I was expexting your text and you were expecting mine! Wow! Now we have expectations from each other..! Now, when did that happen?? ;)" "Hehehe.. I guess the long walk yesterday did that!" she said giggling.        She was talking to him with the enthusiasm which lacked while she spoke to her bf! They spoke about almost everything in d world..frm music, movies, emotions, frnds, hobbies, passions, career goals, experiences, views to just plain PJs with incessant energy n enthusiasm! They understood each other in silence. They didnt any longer need words to express themselves, just the look in their eyes did that. She hadnt met him long ago..no..hardly a few weeks with last saturday morning spent completely with him on marine drive n then loitering on the roads of colaba. She never thought getting lost on a random road in colaba could be so memorable..bt it was!          She was secretly feeling guilty for b...

"Trust me. There's no way that I can sing in front of you." "Well, I don't care. You just have to!" I thrust the guitar into his hands and sit down in front of him. "You won't ever give up now, will you?" He sighs as he strikes a chord. "We got this afternoon You've got this room for two.." His eyes are shut, his voice mesmerizing. Soft..calm..just beautiful. His fingers gently move, the rhythm comes to him so naturally. I just sit and listen. And that's all I want to do. "You were wonderful." I say, once he stops. "You should really try for the competition, you know. You'll get through." "You don't get it Lucy. I can't sing in front of people." He snaps. "Just close your eyes and think that you're singing to me. Do it for me. Please.." I look into his eyes and hold on to his gaze. "There's no way that you'll give up, right?" He smiles, and pulls m...

Dissolve...(Part II)

She trembled in her heels as she walked on the sidewalk, trying to maintain her poise. Her mouth went dry and she cursed herself for not carrying a bottle of water. The street was crowded with people and her mind, with superfluous thoughts. She was reluctant to let her mind ponder over what was happening, for she feared it might only be a figment of her imagination, maybe none of this was actually happening, that maybe if she gave it another thought, she'd realize it was unreal. She finally managed to reach the Cafe, after stumbling and tripping a plenty of times over plain concrete. She took a moment and stood right outside the door, gasping for breath more than ever. She scanned the room from where she stood, wanting to see his face finally and not wanting to spot him at the same time. She was still utterly perplexed by the phone call she had received the night before. "So, I'm coming. And I'd like to meet you." Those words had left her baffled. No...

Dissolve...(Part I)

There I was, standing at a corner in an awkward way, checking my watch every two minutes. That's how bored I was. That's how much I hated parties. I stood there daydreaming of being curled up on a couch, watching my favorite sitcom or just reading a good book. And Coffee. Oh how I'd do anything to get out of there! I looked around the room, scanning each and every individual present there, meanwhile yawning. My face had less expression than that of a brick while one of my feet tapped to the beat of the superfluous 'music' in the room. Just then, a guy caught my attention, almost catching hold of my heart. He stood further away from me, towards the end of the room, gazing at his cell phone screen as if he'd be shot if he'd have looked anywhere else. He wasn't even typing - just staring at it. I took a sip from the dreadful mocktail I was having and kept looking at him. It felt good to have somebody in the room who seemed equally as awkwar...

Green eyes!

He always looked at me with unrelenting hope. His eyes always searching for something in mine, as if somehow he can look deep into my eyes, he'll find something meaningful. I saw that look on his face all the time, the searching look, the inquiring look, all the time wondering if I loved him, asking what he could have done to make me love him back. I cringed at it every time. I wished he wouldn't look at me like that.  I know what started it all. He fell in love with my Green eyes. To him, they were the most beautiful eyes, and the color he was looking for all along.Green. Green is the color he belongs with and green is what he wants. I couldn't give him green eyes. That's why he looked at me like that. He questioned me, he loved me, he tempted me, he even bribed me. But I couldn't.  Then he felt bad. He felt bad about himself, about the world, and about his life. He hated love, because love didn't love him. Eventually, he blamed me for everything - my ...

If Only..!

The eyes that looked back at him were full of love and affection. No. The picture did not do justice to her beauty. The big, beautiful, gray eyes, always lined with kohl, the cute little nose and the nose stud she wore, the naturally pink lips all set in that heart-shaped face made her look like an angel. The smile, the dimples that the smile brought, the way her eyes brightened every time she smiled had taken his breath away every single time he’d looked at her, since the last sixteen years, ever since they were six, No camera in the world, no artist could ever capture her beauty.  He’d considered himself lucky to have her. To have her love. She’d promised to stay with him forever. Didn’t she tell him that no matter what, she’d always love him? Hadn’t she promised that even if he wanted her to leave, she wouldn’t because she loved him too much? Didn’t she tell him that she’ll never leave him alone? Then why? Why did she go? Why did she leave him when he hadn’t even asked her...

A heart in search..

He walked into the room, clutching a book in his hand. It was empty. He looked around and saw the front door open. He ran out the door while a huge rock settled on his heart. He yelled her name out a few times and looked around. He ran across all the cross streets but didn't see her anywhere. He finally jogged to the beach, holding his tears back. He saw her sitting there. And the rock suddenly melted away and the tears fell.

Waves and tears

They stood across the room, looking at each other. The silence was excruciatingly long and uncomfortable. He opened his mouth to say something, hesitated a bit and then went quiet. He turned away from her, opened the door and walked out. She stood there, tears streaming down her face. She picked up her bag and ran out the door, out of his house and onto the streets. She ran till she reached the beach. She kicked her sandals off and collapsed onto the sand. Tonight, the sound of the waves and the cold sand comforted her. A tear rolled off her cheek onto the sand.

Sand and Water

She sat in awe as she listened to the waves crash on the shore. Her toes squirmed as they enjoyed the feeling of cold sand between them. She swayed to the music in her head. She smiled to herself. Loneliness was something she'd always run away from before. But tonight, she enjoyed every second of it. She sighed in contentment as she closed her eyes and lay back on the sand. ______________________________ ______________ He panted as he ran along the shore. He'd set out later than usual for his evening jog so the beach was almost empty. He could hear the waves over the music he was listening to. His jog became a brisk walk and soon, he slowed down to a stroll. Every muscle in his body ached and his skin felt like it was on fire. He pulled the earphones out of his ears, kicked his shoes off and collapsed on the cold sand. He just lay there for what seemed like an eternity. Suddenly, he heard a tiny cough and jerked up. He looked around and saw someone lying just...

Parallel World

He ran across the court, dribbling the ball by his side. He blocked and took a tough shot at the basket. The ball balanced precariously on the ring as every single player stopp to watch it. As everyone gasped, it fell in, making him the star of the match. The girls who were sitting on the bleachers erupted in Ooh's and Aah's while his team mates ran up to pat him on the back. He was pretty excited and looked around at all the people cheering for him. As he was looking away, a girl at the end of the bleachers caught his sight. She had her earphones plugged and looked completely lost in a small thick book that she was reading. He found himself getting slightly annoyed at her lack of interest in what he'd just achieved. He turned around and started running across the court. He looked up at her again and saw her smiling at the book - and he found himself smiling at that. ---------------------- She sat at the far end of the bleachers, away from the rest of t...

Falling For The Right Guy V

She was smiling when her phone rang again. She was surprised to see it was Vishakha. “Fought with Akshay, again?” Akshay was Vishakha’s boyfriend and if you’re wondering who Vishakha is, then let me tell you she is Navya’s best friend. Yes, the same best friend who raised her eyebrows and rolled her eyes when Navya had told her about Nikhil and herself. Vishakha was always busy at night. Free Reliance to Reliance calls, you see and called Navya at night only when she had a big fight with Akshay. “Where were you busy? I’ve been calling you since an hour.” Uh-oh! She didn’t know about Vaibhav. Problem was, Navya didn’t know about Vaibhav. “A question for a question? Not allowed.” she tried to change the topic. “Answer me Navya. Who were you talking to? Nikhil’s called me thrice because your phone was busy. You know I hate talking to him.” she huffed. True! Vishakha had never liked Nikhil. And she absolutely hated him. Reason, still unknown. Every time Navya asked her abou...

Falling for the right guy -Part IV

“Don’t say no later, then.” he winked, as he stood up. She looked at him with a confused expression. “Sit down.” she said with an amused smile. “Only if you agree to be my girlfriend for the day.” he mimicked her. “You’re forgetting, I already have a boyfriend, plus, only a few hours for the day to end.” she said with a hint of irritation. He said nothing, just got up and started walking towards the water. Now, she panicked. “Okay. I’m your girlfriend for the rest of this day.” she shouted. He turned back and gave her a triumphant grin. Damn, if smiles could kill, she would have died a thousand deaths by now. “You know, you’re not as great as I was beginning to think you are.” she said as he came back to sit with her. “You think I am great?” he smiled. “Thought!” She corrected him, trying to ignore the smile. As he opened his mouth to say something, her phone rang, her ringtone sending him into fits of laughter. She glared at him while she took Nikhil’s call. ...
